Final Piece Production

So I went out with my wonderful model Iman Hussein to go to Brick Lane's wasteland to film and shot my final piece. To be honest, I didn't have much idea of exactly what I was looking for but I knew that I wanted to create the most surreal environment as possible.

This set (above) was taken so I could use it for a short series of A3 prints on foam board. I set up her living space in a derelict abandoned space in Brick Lane which used to be a house. The area where the kitchen once was is visible because of the broken tiles on the floor. Because of its rough appearance, that is the area which I decided to shoot. We used found objects (wooden blank, folded cardboard, rocks and stones) and a bag which I brought to really create the feeling of a poverty struck person and their surroundings.

This set (above) was all shot in front of the green screen. I done this because I wanted to incorporate as many as possible into my final piece video. By using Adobe After Effects, I might be able to make a great production using still photography as well as video recordings in the same file. I got the model to express many different emotions just in case I needed to fill the scenes with many different moods. By doing this, I was able to keep my options open and be flexible and creative with the content of my project.

This set of landscape photography was to create a feeling of being surrounded by emptiness and solely surviving by yourself. I shot the model walking from a couple meres away. I think that the photos create a great visual and she is framed in the photos well. With these photos, I could be able to make make many productions. My main use of them will be for a magazine article.

In the 12 hour exam, I was able to use these photos effectively. I made many pieces to become my final product of the project. I created 3 short films, a magazine cover and article, and 3 A3 photos to be printed and showcased around the films. These are the 3 photos that I chose to be showcased:
This photo is my favourite because it has an amazing composition. The camera is at eye level with the model and that could connote how the journalists and photo journalists who assess and explore these environments should put themselves at the same level as the people that they are working on because although we can never understand their problems and their pain, we can at least try and talk/ photograph them with an open mind.

Once again, I really like the composition in this photo. The model is centred in the frame yet she leans in to the right side of the shot and is huddled up. It is a really strong shot because she stares right into the camera lens and en-captures the viewer.

This photo is really interesting because its lighting is a god resemblance of the hot conditions that the people live in. The lighting appears to be sunny and the model is shielded by her cardboard home. But the actual lighting on the day was not sunny at all. This works great for my work because it helps to make the work appear  as genuine as possible.

This is the magazine cover that I made. I used the same TIME magazine cover as before and changed the photo. I really liked this photo because the model is laughing and seems a little tired. This could appear to be because of the hot climate and the hard living conditions. To go with the theme, I changed the lighting in the photos and used the colour balance to manipulate the highlight lighting and make it more red-tinted. This could be because of the hot sun beating down on the model; I think it works well.

This is the magazine article that I created. I really enjoyed doing this. I feel that it looks like it is real, with a quote on the top right-hand corner of the page which comes from the article. In the article, I talk about the implications of the journalists work and critical responses of the videos I made. I think that the article is effective because although it resembles a real media text, its message is strong and still comes across in the content.

This is the first film I made in the exam. It consists of found photography and questions that I had written up to evoke feelings from the viewer and to make them question the motives of journalists and the media. The film includes questions like "what are the implications?" and "Are they reporting the problems, or are they causing it?" These questions refer to the way that I believe the media manipulate what they report and they strategically edit their findings. What we see in modern media and photo journalism is nothing like the film verite' (Un-manipulated/ un-edited documented footage or photgraphy) that dominated the media in the early 20th century.

This is a film that I made with all my own footage and it is supposed to be like a documentary abroad that you might see on the national geographic channel. The construction of the film is to be an interview with a person who lives in her living space and she is talking to the interviewer about the mislead view in the media and how the foundations made to help people in her situation really do not understand what they really go through. I find this to be the most effective film because it really shows how the natives could feel. Although, it is not accurate and does not reflect the thought of any real person.

This is the final product I created in my final exam. It is a moving painting that I created using Adobe After Effects. It includes 2 videos and a photo of the character wealking in the background. The reason I made this is because I feel that the media paint a perception in which we are supposed to see the people in these civilizations. We are never shown the good things about this side of the world yet we are made to glorify the attention that the media gives them.

Final Piece Ideas & Practice.

So Now I have to draft a few ideas to carry through to do for my final piece.

Straight away, I wanted to make a film that would be an interview with a poor woman and hold a huge recreation of a protest. The protest film would take place in a real street and I planned on making it look as real as possible.

Recap

At this point of my project I want to take a brief look back at where I have got to and where it can lead me. The beginnings of the project were aiming towards a pop cultured theme bursting with colour and character.

Response to Marco Brambilla's 'Ghost'

This is my conceptual response to Marco Brambilla's 'Ghost'. It is not a direct imitation of his work nor is it a remake. Rather, I was inspired by his art film and used his idea behind it as inspiration to make a short motion art piece.

The first step I took was I used one of my response photos to Martin Schoeller to create an illusion photo.
