John Stezaker

John Stezaker is a British artist who uses found photography to create collages and illusions with faces and landscapes. He studied art in the 1960s and has been creating great collections ever since. His work is currently being shown in the Whitechapel Gallery and is in the Saatchi Gallery. These are some examples of his work:

She (Film Portrait Collage) III - 2008

Marriage L. 2007

His work does not interest me much. This is because I personally find it effortless and far to conceptual to engage me. The idea that his work intends for the viewer to 'do all the work' by thinking about it to create a meaning is not ideal; I  generally do not like it.

I did my own response to his work (using photography by Martin Schoeller) that uses the same collage styles as his work and layout.

My experiments developed an alien theme which links in with my highate cemetary concept about 'question existence'. The most successful one was:

The composition is really good referring to how the aliens face aligns with the models face. The lighting contrast (from the light photo to the grainy grayscale photo f the alien) is really effective and emphasises on the metaphor on human life against other intelligent beings.
