HIGHGATE CEMETARY

As a class, we went to Highgate cemetary to get some inspiration and explore the surroundings of the cemetary and study the styles of the graves and maybe even gain inspiration for our projects. These are the photos that I took.

For all of my photos in the cemetary I used a green overlaying light filter on my camera to imitate the feeling off being deep in a dark forest. My favourite photo was:

Because it shows the fact that in a place that is built for souls to rest, it has nature and animal life living in it; a strong contrast. I made up a concept whilst I was there. It was called 'Question existence' and it was based around why are we alive? Are we alone? So the photos I took were aimed towards fulfilling that concept. This photo, to me is a metaphor of this concept. It has the squirrel and the branch really close up - which is like the human race as we are on the forefront of existence and the smartest race known. Then you have all the branches in the back that are bound together - and that is like all the other aces that could exist in the universe and if they exist, they are unknown; behind our race.

As I was walking around taking photos, my thoughts were heading towards questioning life and death. Why are we alive, whilst thousands of people lie dead under gravestones. We are one live being amongst thousands dead. I went off on a trail of thoughts about life.
